Leamington: Christmas Badges
There's a Leamington Design Studio that have made some pretty ace looking badges, better still they're being sold to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
ThrillstarDesign have designed Christmas themed buttons which are a bit more original than your usual run of the mill festive merch.
There's more details on Thrillstar Design's website.
Or if Facebook is your thing... https://www.facebook.com/ThrillstarDesign in the meantime.

Coventry & Leamington: Beginners & Intermediates Badminton Coaching
In association with Leamington Badminton Club and Coventry Badminton Club.
Coming up on Saturday 24th November in Coventry is some fun, friendly and informal badminton coaching aimed at beginners and intermediate players.
Big smiles on the faces of the attendees of the last event. |
A number of experienced players (including Warwickshire County) will be on hand to demonstrate the correct back-hand grip, teach you a flick serve and perfect your overhead clears. Intermediate players will be able to fine-tune their smash, improve upon their tumbling net shots and improve their tactical understanding of the game.
The end of the session will include a small 'tournament' for players to practice and perfect what they've learnt during the day. We'll then cap off all our hard work with a drink in the bar afterwards.
It will be held at XCEL Centre, Mitchell Avenue, Coventry, CV4 8DY on Saturday 24th November, 11am to 2pm.

Kenilworth: Almanack
We popped into the Almanack on Wednesday afternoon for a quick drink. A hot chocolate and a pint of Estrella sets you back £7.05, not the cheapest.
I hadn't been in the Almanack before, but everyone seems to talk highly of it. Indeed the surroundings were very nice, the bar staff friendly and courteous and some good songs on their stereo (inc. David Bowie, classic).
However, what's the deal with children running around on tables, literally running around on the tabletops?! Why do parents let their kids do it, that, and rolling around on the floor? Also, what's the deal with all the dogs in the place? There were at least four or five, wet smelling, dogs in the pub.
So, overall, not the best of impressions, I wonder if it's any better during the evening?

Warwick: Bowling Green Badminton Club
Keeping on the theme of badminton, where "the best shuttlecocks are said to be made from the left wing of a goose", we take a look at a club with a new ladies team in Warwick.
The Bowling Green Badminton Club (named after the pub in St Nicholas Church Street, Warwick) is a mixed badminton club, but have recently established a ladies team too.
Their season kicked off this week with a home match against Shipston Ladies in the Leamington and District Badminton Association leagues, where they registered a 6-2 home victory.

Leamington: Ultimate Frisbee Club
So, the very first post on this blog, and possibly the last one, we'll see when my enthusiasm runs out!
Leamington Spa has one of the most established Ultimate Frisbee teams in the whole of the UK. Formed in September of 2006, the club has grown from it's modest beginnings in Victoria Park to one of the largest clubs around, sporting more than 100 members.
The whatisultimate website describes the sport as...
"Ultimate is an exciting, non-contact team sport, played by thousands the world over. It mixes the best features of sports such as Soccer, Basketball, American Football and Netball into an elegantly simple yet fascinating and demanding game. To compete at the top level, Ultimate players require an unmatched degree of speed, stamina and agility.
Yet the simplicity of the rules means it's easyand fun for newcomers to pick up."
The Leamington Lemmings have close ties with Evolution, a school team from Aylesford School in Warwick. Regular joint coaching sessions have resulted in a good partnership between the two clubs. This has resulted in several of the players being selected to represent Great Britain at international tournaments.
Anyone interested in trying out Ultimate Frisbee should take a look at the Lemmings website, they always welcome new players!
